A fantastic effort and a fourth straight win and clean sheet

We were at the neutral ground of Fulbourn for our League Cup semi final against Bar Hill. With the other semi final taking place on the adjacent pitch between Cambridge United Reserves and St Ives, the two teams who would compete for the cup final would be decided at the same time.

The pitch was in great condition and would allow good passing football, which always suits us.

The ladies arrived in a calm but confident manner and management asked that all thoughts of reaching the final should be put on hold, we needed to earn that right.

We really couldn't have asked for a better start. Looking confident from the first whistle, we had already had several good attacks until the 4th minute saw us take an early lead. A great cross from the left caused havoc in the Bar Hill box, Georgina Parrett got on the ball and directed a short goal wards and instead of a defender clearing the ball, they could only steer it into their own net. 1-0 Netherton.

Our second goal came on 18 minutes and we were really running the show by then. Attack after attack threatened the Bar Hill goal but we were kept out time and time again by their excellent keeper. A deft lob over the defence by Alice MacNicol found Emily Johnson who made no mistake with a clinical finish. 2-0 Netherton.

In the 27th minute, the ball of the match from Megan Parrett cleared the last defender and found Yasmin Green, she absolutely hammered the ball home from just inside the box, superb goal. 3-0 Netherton.

We continued to boss the first half and Bar Hill for all their intent and endeavour really didn't threaten us too much, it was to be another strong defensive display today.

Half Time 3-0

The players were told they still had work to do, the win was not ours yet. We were out of the blocks so quickly and 3 early attacks in the first 2 minutes of the second half brought us our fourth goal. A whipped in cross found its way to Emily Johnson, she fed Natalie Gaches and she smashed the ball home from 6 yards for her first goal of the season. 4-0 Netherton.

We continued to press and on 65 minutes we had our fifth and best goal of the game. A lovely 6 pass move ended when Jenna Nairn teased a ball over the last defender and Megan Parrett just beat their keeper to the ball and sent a lovely lob into the net. 5-0 Netherton.

Final Score 5-0

A brilliant performance and effort from everyone today, with the just rewards being a place in the League Cup Final.

Credit to Bar Hill for their attitude today, they battled up to the final whistle and never made it easy for us. We look forward to welcoming them to The Grange next week for a league game.

An absolutely brilliant month on and off the pitch for our Ladies. 4 wins out of 4, 4 clean sheets, 22 goals scored, up to second in the league and now into a cup final. Yes, not a bad month at all.
